This blog seems to be dead for a while...and it´s true. Well... there´s not much to say in the moment. Or maybe it is! JohnOssi is currently working on a new project! More you can read here:
The winter in sweden is right around the corner, even though the lack of snow is very obvious.
We spend our days in the dungeon, which is our rehersal space, located 20 meter below ground. The process of creating our next record has begun. Its a slow process, we're starting all over again, gaining new energy, discussing new subjects, strumming new guitars, experimenting with new effects. Feeling like shit, feeling good.
We are trying real hard not to be in control of our music, but to let the music be in control of us.

Annie: Let's start with an easy question: how would you call your music?
John: That's no easy question, it's one of the hardest.
Ossi (thinks): yeah well, melodious...
John: melodious drum'n-bass-focused guitar rock-pop?
Annie: Your last album is called Mavericks. Do you often feel like mavericks? When did you feel like that the last time?
Ossi: Well, I think when we were younger and didn't really know what we had to do, because we decided to do nothing... this was a kind of being maverick. But once in a while everybody should try to be a Maverick, I think it would make the world a better place. But I don't really remember when I felt like a Maverick the last time...
Annie: What about you, John?
John: Well, I feel like that every single time when we do something and everybody is against us. But then we're just saying: We'll do this anyway, and if it works we're proud. That's important... because people are different and if you are a maverick often free mind goes with free will and hand in hand with directness towards the world. It's about trying to be not close-minded and conservative; we're not withdrawn at all, but open for new things. I think it's important to look behind the obvious, to develop as a human being. So many people only live for fame, just because they were educated that way and think everything works that way.
Ossi: We know many people that are that way and act on that maximes. That holds them off from being how they really are and from doing something that would have more substance.
Annie: next question... What do you think is the main difference between you and the more commercial band Mando Diao, that is from Sweden too?
Annie: You've been touring with Razorlight before. Which band would you like to support in the future?
Ossi: Normally you tour with other bands because you're friends with them. We've once toured with the Hives in Japan, that was real fun. To suport your friends is the best thing you can do, but still there are these big bands from America, with which you'd love to play just to reach a bigger audience.
John: It doesn't always have to be a bands you like, but of course we'd like to play with the Queens Of Stone Age or the Foo Fighters, even if we don't listen to them that often. But a audience of that size would of course be awesome...
Apart from that I think it's easier to support a band that you're no real fan of. Because then you've got the feeling that you're better than the mainact. But if we'd... (thinks) ...Ossi, name a good band! .... if we'd, let's say tour with the Band Of Horses, we'd, I think, feel like very bad musicians. (laughs) But it would be awesome, Arcade Fire would be great too! Or U2, not because we like them, but more because it would be good for our importance.
Annie: Do you know German bands that you'd like to tour with?
John: We got an offer to play with the Beatsteaks, but unfortunately we had other plans. The tour would be this april, and everybody we told of that said "You have made the wrong decision!", because apparently this group is very popular in Germany. But it's always flattering to be asked by a band to join them on tour. Hopefully we can do that another time with the Beatsteaks!
Annie: That would be great! ... well, right now it's in fashion to mix your songs with electronic elements or to do remixes. Would that be a possibility for you too?
Ossi: Well, in Sweden there are some remixes of our songs. Some are good, and some... bad. (laughs)
Annie: A song of you is called „There’s a lot of things to do…“. Which things would you like to do before you die?
Ossi (thinks): Sometimes I want to create someting new, something that brings me to another direction. But actually I just want to travel around the world, have many children, eat good things, drink a lot of wine. I want to protect my family, my friends...
John: yourself...
Ossi: Yeah, right, myself, and I want to meet a lot of new people before I die.
John: I'd like to write many new songs that I haven't written yet. When I'm old I want to have a huge collection of self-written songs. Moreover I want almost the same like Oskar, maybe except the travelling. I don't have itchy feet.

But if you have a successful song in a big country like Germany, everything changes. You're automatically seen as a commercial band. They haven't really thought commercial I think. They're good friends of ours and we hang out with them a lot. They're still like they were 10 years ago, and I think we're that way too.
Ossi: We always try to explore new coasts and to do new things and have the same philosophy regarding music. You don't want to repeat yourself all the time.
John: And you think they play sold out shows now and are boring?

John: Yeah, there are really, really bad ones. But right now there's a cool electro-house-duo, Rebecca & Fiona, and they did a remix for Roscoe. But we don't spend that much attention to remixes. Our label asked, we said yes, but we're not involved in that, because we don't like music that much that's just done with computers.

Annie: Another question: Some people say you have had huge mental problems while the production of your last album. In how far has this crises influenced your way of writing and the recording process?
John: I think very much. It doesn't matter in which mental or emotional state we are, it will always influence us. But at the same time we don't want to analyse these things. We just want to go with the flow, as long as there is one, even if we feel bad. Thank God we've always been playing music. We just want to be open towards our creativity and to record as many good songs as possible. It's always good if you can transfor something bad into something good, for example if you go trough a hard time and can make something positive out of it. That's how it was with this album. We have transformed something really bad into a fantastic album.
Ossi: That's the good thing about being and artist, writer or musician. You can just transform bad experiences into something good by being creative. That's also the reason why I can't imagine sitting in an office, fill in forms and stuff like that; stuff where you're working on things that already exist.
Annie: Last question... who is Roscoe and what is that song about?
John: It's a friend that's called Roscoe and is always scared to do something. Instead of trying things he isn't starting them, because he is scared of failing; he rather locks in his house. It is an imaginary person, we don't have a friend called like that. I just started singing "Roscoe, Roscoe..." when I wrote the melody, I don't even know why. But it sounded good, that's why we just kept that name for the person...

Is that a feeling a change
John: “I knew that Ossi is a good drummer and that he knew a lot of other musicians. So I called him one day and we arranged a meeting to play together and just to look what might happen…”
Ossi: “We were already excited and overwhelmed about the first try. Simply everything fitted. It was… perfect. We didn’t need other musicians. What we two could achieve with simply a guitar and some drums was entirely enough.”

Ingen av vägarna är rätt eller fel
Starý rozhovor s Johnossi, přeložený ze švédštiny během letního volna. Rozhovor je z roku 2008. Johnossi hrálo na festivalu Rookie a Teresa Hedström položila Johnovi a Ossimu pár otázek. O čem se bavili si můžete přečíst zde:
Pro ty, kdo vás neznají: Kdo jste?
Jsme John a Ossi a děláme hudbu společně. Hrajeme spolu už přibližně čtyři roky.
Jaktože jste jen dva? To je trochu neobvyklé...
Nezačali jsme skupinu kvůli instrumentům, ale protože jsme chtěli hrát spolu. A fungovalo to, tak se toho pevně držíme, říká John.
Jaktože jedna kytara, jeden set bubnů, jeden John a jeden Ossi udělají takový randál?
Má to co dělat s více různými faktory, začne John a pokračuje: Hrajeme ´tvrdě´ a když hrajeme na živo máme dobré zvukaře, takže to zní dobře. Hodně udělaly naše čtyři zesilovače.
Ossi doplňuje, že se naučili ovládat své nástroje tak dobře, že nikdo jiný by to pravděpodobně takhle nedokázal.
Jste hodně sehraní, když hrajete. Je to přirozené nebo je to trénink?
Udělali jsme nějakých sto představení a zkoušíme a zkoušíme a zkoušíme. Ale byli jsme hodně sehraní hned od začátku, říká John.
A Ossi doplňuje: Byli jsme vždycky sehraní, ale rok od roku se to zlepšuje.
Kromě toho jsme na scéně na sobě hodně závislí. Když člověk hraje ve skupině, hraje jenom ´poblíž´ těch, co hrají nejblíž. Nemůže slyšet ty ostatní. Například basista možná slyší jen bubny... My máme jen jeden druhého, proto nám to musí sedět, abychom zněli dobře.
Četla jsem, že práce od 9 do 5 vás děsí. Co byste dělali, kdybyste nedělali hudbu?
Ossi by měl práci, kde by mohl pracovat doma. Říká, že nemá paniku z osmihodinové pracovní doby, ale z kanceláře.
John říká, že u něj je to panika z toho muset být na určitém místě v určitý čas.
Ale jaktože to teď funguje? Teď musíte být na určitém místě v určitý čas...
John říká, že teď mají chvíli, kdy musí někde být, ale můžou odpočívat během cesty.
Mohl jsem si rozhodovat o svém volném čase. Teď nějaký čas intenzivně pracujeme a potom máme víc volna, říká Ossi.
John říká, že v červenci nemají žádný volný čas. Další volno je ale nadosah a potom ho budou mít víc, než je běžné.
Kdo píše texty a hudbu?
Já píšu texty i hudbu. Nejdřív napíšu hudbu, udělám melodii a kytarové části. Zbytek děláme spolu. Často si začnu zpívat, když přijdu na nějakou melodii, pokud do melodie dobře zapadají slova. Obvykle potom jen vyměním slova co zní divně, říká John a dodává, že celé tělo je pro něj jako instrument. Hodně v hudbě používá svůj hlas.
Vaše hudební vzory?
John říká, že mají hodně vzorů. Jak ´klidné´ zpěváky a skladatele, tak i metal. Moc se neinspirujeme v hudbě, která se nám podobá.
Ossi vysvětluje, že lepší je pocit, který píseň zprostředkuje, který inspiruje. Dobrá píseň tě nutí si ji zopakovat.
Vydali jste desku v roce 2005 a 2008. Kdy se vynoří další?
Rozdíl mezi druhou a třetí deskou by měl být menší než mezi první a druhou. Bude to na podzim 2010, říká John.
Vaši první desku jste vydali znovu. Proč?
Vyměnili jsme nahrávací společnost a naše deska nebyla ve švédských obchodech půl roku. Chtěli jsme, aby tam byla, takže když vycházela evropská verze vydali jsme ji znovu spolu s ní.
Co máte nejradši? Živé vystoupení nebo studio?
John říká, že mají rádi obě varianty a Ossi dodává, že člověk se nepotřebuje rozhodovat. Kromě toho vydali jen dvě desky zatímco jezdí hodně po turné několik měsíců v roce. Nedá se to srovnávat. Ale oba si myslí, že živá vystoupení se hodně odlišují od hudby hrané ve studiu.
Jak se nabíjíte před koncertem a jak moc důležité je to pro vaše hraní?
Oba: Spánek a sprcha. John říká, že si dá drink, musí být uvolněný a pak skáče a křičí. Ossi potřebujeme nejméně hodinu mezi tím co vstane z postele a vyjde na scénu. To je hrozně důležité, říká.
Nejlepší/nejhorší koncertní vzpomínka?
Těch bylo hodně, ale ty nejlepší koncerty si člověk nepamatuje protože byl až příliš ´uvnitř´ toho všeho. Je to skoro jako mít nehodu. Člověk si nepamatuje jak se to přihodilo, říká John a Ossi ho doplňuje: Jo, člověka pak bolí celé tělo. (oba se smějí)
Člověk si pamatuje, že to stálo za to, ale nic víc. A žádné vystoupení není stejné, říká John.
Někdy je to spokojenost a nespokojenost, dodává Ossi. Každopádně poznáme, když to bylo dobré, to si vzájemně nepotřebujeme nic víc říct.
Jak vůbec zvládáte váš koncert? Hrajete a zpíváte jako blázni...
Já mám velmi odolný hlas. A minulé léto jsem přišel na to, co dělat, aby zněl hrubě, takže to teď dělám. Po třech měsících na turné mám neprůstřelný hlas. Je pořád dobrý. Ale na podzim je první koncert po dlouhé době. Budu se muset pořádně zahřát, takže budu křičet každý večer v týdnu, říká John.
Ale co Ossiho ruce?
Ruce jsou to, co je na tom nejlíp. Často se mlátím do noh a pak mám na nich modřiny. Zbytek těla dostává výprask, ale ruce jsou v pohodě, říká Ossi s úsměvem. Je snadné dostat krční ústřel, takže je důležité se zahřát. Člověk není ve formě pořád. To nejtěžší je kondice.
Kdyby jste měli po zbytek života poslouchat už jen jednu píseň, jaká by to byla?
Ticho nebo píseň, která by měla tak velký obsah jak jen by to bylo možné, začne John. Možná něco klasického. Symfonie, ale dlouhá, na dvě desky.
Ossi konstatuje že Autobahn od Kraftwerk má 20 minut.... John se rozhodl vybrat si "Bad Bad Boys" od Midi, Maxi a Efti. Oba pro mě začnou trochu zpívat.
Máte nějakou radu pro ty kdo chtějí prorazit?
Přesně se rozhodněta jakou cestou se chcete dát. Komerční umělec nebo punk. Jsou jenom tyhle dva. Člověk musí vědět co chce. A žádná z těch cest není správná nebo špatná, říká John.
Člověk musí vědět, že nebude prvních deset let vydělávat žádné peníze, tipuje Ossi.
A být na začátku bláznivý a nebojácný. Po dvou letech člověk dosáhne toho takový nebýt, ale to už si tím člověk prošel, říká John.
A tiskne zatraceně krásná trička, uzavírá Ossi.

Oh what a beautiful sight
Ossi catched again with guys from Mando Diao. This time on DTM racing event in Munich that was held yesterday. Mando Diao played there just a few songs AND Ossi was The drummer.

I´d operate with this knife
Dva nové koncerty byly přidány do sekce Tour. Oba v Německu. Jeden v rámci festivalu AREA 4 - 21. Srpna a druhý v Kostnici na festivalu ROCK AM SEE - 27. Srpna 2011.
Proč jen Johnossi, proč jen jste stejní jako ti ostatní a hrajete jen v Německu?

At the end of the old mountain road
Even though Johnossi didn´t play at Peace & Love festival in Sweden (why?) one can have Johnossi experience easily. And because it´s not a good Swedish trip without Johnossi we bought Johnossi first album (Scandinavian Bonus Track Version) right at the famous Skivbutik in Borlänge. (Ok now only Mando Diao or Sugarplum Fairy fans can understand.) And met/saw Ossi as an audience on one VERY special P&L concert. What a Borlänge!

Festival reminder. Johnossi will play at Hultsfred festival at Sweden - 15. July at Blue stage. Be there if you can. I´d like to be there, trust me. I miss Johnossi SO much.
Další zastávka na letním Johnossi Tour je švédský festival Hultsfred (odkaz zde). Hultsfred je město nacházející se v jižním Švédsku, kraji Skåne. Takže to není odsud tak daleko jako třeba Stockholm:)

Things are quite unreal to me now
Johnossi odehráli během posledních 4 dnů tři koncerty. První z nich v Göteborgu 8. června.
Johnossi have played three shows recently. As you can see in our Tour section:) The first one was held in Göteborg. Here comes the setlist and a video from the concert.
(I hate you Mr. Engelbert. Why didn´t you do that in Gröna Lund? It´s like a curse. Not being on the right place in the right time.)
Druhý koncert se odehrál v Berlíně. Tady John a Ossi zahráli jen sedm písní jakožto předskokani německé skupiny Beatstakes. (předskokan zní vážně hrozně...)
The other one took place in Berlin, on 10. 6. as a supporting act of the german band Beatstakes (even I think that it should be the other way around...).
Just a short part of Dead End...
A nakonec poslední koncert proběhl opět v Německu, na open air festivalu v Passau. Více ke vzhlédnutí:)
